Why does Grow By Three believe that mentorship is important?
At Grow By Three, we understand that life is not always easy. Many of us do not always have the information or support we need to strategically get ahead. Having a mentor to provide guidance or serve as a resource while you navigate your personal/professional goals can be incredibly helpful.
Serving as a mentor allows individuals to give back, and recycle much of the helpful information they received in their own lives. This “recycling” process helps enrich lives and promote success!
How will I be matched with a mentor or mentee?
We carefully crafted all of the questions in our mentorship applications to ensure that we are learning critical, in-depth information about all potential members. When reviewing submitted information, we work to find similarities and opportunities that would foster strong bonds between pairs.
How long does it take to fill out the mentorship application?
Depending on how much information you would like to share, it can take anywhere between five and fifteen minutes to complete the application. We chose not to offer a “bare-bones” application because we really want the matching process to lead to successful pairs.
If I am applying as a mentee, is it also possible that I could mentor someone who might be younger than me? Alternatively, if I am applying as a mentor, is it possible that I could be mentored by someone more senior?
Yes, that is definitely possible! We are really excited about the opportunity to create “families” within our mentorship program. We want to establish opportunities for every member to be as supported and connected as possible.
When will I receive my match?
We are currently in the process of building a robust pool of participants, and aim to complete the matching process by May 31. Barring any additional delays due to COVID-19, we hope to send out matches in June.
How long should I expect the mentorship relationship to last with my match, and what are the expectations?
We believe that mentorship relationships should by dynamic, and primarily driven by the people in the relationship. The mentorship applications request information related to preferred methods of communication and frequency of contact, so we will do our best to match individuals with similar preferences. However, we require that mentors/mentees connect at least once every two months for one year. “Connecting” can be a simple email to check in, a call, video conference, or in-person meeting. We provide specific topics and questions to guide check-ins; these topics are connected to learning objectives that we hope each mentee will achieve. Beyond the first year of the program, participants can continue the relationship however they please.
How will I communicate with my match?
In our eyes, all communication can be remote. However, face-to-face communication, if possible, can be great too.
Will the personal and professional information I provide in my application be kept confidential?
When connecting you with a match, we provide insight about some of your professional goals, and share your resume. However, we do not share your GPA unless it is included in your resume, nor do we share any disciplinary information. During the matching process, our team is solely responsible for matching. We limit access to your information because we want you to be as candid and honest in all of your responses. If you noted that you were referred by an ambassador, please note that ambassadors do not see any of your information aside from your first name and last name’s initial (unless you happen to be matched together).
