Frequently Asked Questions:
1. My username features three letters and the one in the middle does not match the letter that my middle name starts with. Why is this?
- We do not have access to middle names unless you originally provided one. If the initials provided matched another participant’s initials, we added a unique letter between the two of the initials.
2. Where can I find my username?
- Your username is in the original email that you used to set up your account on the portal.
3. Why am I required to name my documents in a specific way?
- You receive comprehensive editing support for your materials, so we need to route them to the right people on our team. Following the naming requirement ensures that this happens. Document names should follow this format “Type Of Document_Version#_Username.” As an example for a first draft of a personal statement, the document name should be “Personal Statement_v1_GBT6789.” You may also be thinking : “why does this naming requirement differ from what is in the Tutorial?” The answer is that technically it does not differ from the tutorial because your username is essentially comprised of two initials and the last four digits of your ID number.
4. When are tasks due?
- Tasks are due by the “Due By…” date listed on the portal, by 11:59 p.m. (ET). We take deadlines extremely seriously, so you must do your due diligence to make sure that your submissions are on time. When your submission has gone through, and you return to your assignments page, you will see a checkmark on the right side.
5. How do I get one-on-one assistance from Grow By Three through this program?
- Send us an email to advise@growbythree.com and be specific about the assistance you need! If an email won’t cut it for you, schedule an advising session through this link. Advising sessions become available on June 16, 2021. If none of the available times work for you, send an email to advise@growbythree.com which provides at least three days and times that can work for you.
6. I need help navigating the portal. What do I do?
- Check out this “Getting Started” tutorial if you have not already. If you still need help, send an email to advise@growbythree.com.
7. I am stressed out by the deadlines. How do I handle this?
- We know every single participant has a lot going on. The most important thing to remember is that even if you were not working with us, you would need to accomplish these tasks to successfully apply to law school anyway. Now is the time to implement your absolute best time management skills. We encourage you to do your best to get things done early – take stock of the current deadlines since you have them all in advance. Add them to your calendar! Text them to yourself! Find an accountability partner! Write them on sticky-notes and put them on your mirror! Do whatever you need to do to help yourself stay on track. We are here to give guidance to support you as needed. Plus, many of the tasks take only a few minutes, and you can knock things off of your to-do list weeks in advance.
- We highly recommend always reviewing instructions and completing tasks as early as you can. Never wait until the deadline is one or two days away to complete a task especially because you might end up being surprised by what you actually have to do. Remember: the work you do now can have a serious impact on the trajectory of your law school journey.
8. I clicked on a task to complete it early but I am getting a message that the task is not open yet. What does this mean?
- Some tasks do not become available until a certain date, so do not be alarmed if that happens. A prime example would be your participant progress reports for a certain month. Progress Reports become available on the first day of the following month, and are required to be completed by the 10th of that month. Take September for instance – you can’t tell us about your September progress until September ends – so the progress report for September becomes available on October 1, and should be completed by October 10.
9. Should I be worried that I only have 10 days to complete the Progress Reports on the portal?
- Absolutely not! These Progress Reports are quite short, and should not take more than 5 minutes, so don’t worry – 10 days is ample time to complete them. Progress Reports do not start until the fall months, when the cycle fully opens. Although the reports are short, they provide super important information about your admissions process, and ways that we can help support you, as you get closer and closer to the finish line!
10. Are Q&A or Workshop Sessions mandatory?
- The sessions are optional, and are an additional resource to help participants feel more supported and prepared for the admission process.
